Rewind

My Year in Review!

Happy New Year

Happy new year everyone! I hope you had a wonderful year. I’m sure you’ve had your ups and downs; but I hope overall it was a blessed and joyous year. And now for 2014! I can’t believe it. Time certainly does fly. Since I’m in a little bit of denial I’m going to look back at 2013.

It was a wonderful year for blogging. I moved away from Blogger and started my own website; which I absolutely love.

On the reading front, I met all of my goals. I read a total of 73 books in 2013. Woo hoo! It was my biggest year yet! I read some really wonderful books and some really questionable books as well. Here is my top ten for 2013:

During 2013, I discovered the amazing world of the graphic novel. Templar and Relish were two of my favorites. I can’t wait to discover more in 2014!

Another big discovery for me is the audiobook. Towards the end of the year I started listening to audiobooks during my commute to work. During my commute I have fallen in love with the Dresden Files! I tried to read the first two in the series and I didn’t like it at all. Then I listened to James Marsters and everything changed! I currently listening to Proven Guilty. I love it!!

On the family, it was another crazy and busy year. My girls danced, played basketball, softball and soccer. Busy, busy, busy! Our big vacation was Walt Disney World. It was the best of times and the worst of times! Lots of good times and lots of hissy fits! I actually posted pics of the girls pitching fits on Facebook as a deterrent and it actually worked. Every time I pointed the camera at them, they started. That’s my parenting tip for 2013!

I, also, ran my first 5K race. In fact, I ran in two races. It was really hard, but I did it!! I really want to continue running and to be able to run an entire race. No walking for me!

And lastly, I’m so excited to have restarted my Barefoot Books business. I love books so much and I want to share them with everyone. With Barefoot, I can share them with children. I love seeing little ones turning the pages and watching their faces. The wonder and enjoyments is precious!

Overall, it’s been a wonderful year. I wonder what 2014 will bring. My goals/resolutions for this year are run a 5K without walking, stop biting my nails, spread the word of Barefoot Books, and of course READ MORE!!!

Happy New Year!!

August Rewind

Cloud_cover-1

Man, August was a tough month for blogging. With school starting and the girls’ activities beginning, it is really difficult to find the time to read and blog. Well, let’s see how I did!

Here are the books I read and reviewed:

Audiobooks I listened to and reviewed:

And that’s all she wrote! Not sure if I will have a better month in September because I “volunteered” to be my daughter’s soccer coach. Ask me if I have ever played soccer before. Great question! No, I have not! It will be an adventure to say the least. So excited!! Woo Hoo! Actually, all kidding aside, I am pretty excited to coach a bunch of six-year-old girls. It will be loads of fun!

June Rewind

Cloud_cover-1

School is out and the crazy summer has begun! I don’t feel like I have gotten a lot of reading done; BUT we did go to DISNEYWORLD!!! I call it the best of times and the worst of times. Overall, we had a great time, however, I will definitely think twice about going again in summer.

20130610-200743

After Disneyworld was behind us, I did get some reading done! And here is this month’s list:

Bristol House by Beverly Swerling

Murder as a Fine Art by David Morrell

Charlotte: Pride and Prejudice Continues by Karen Aminadra

Matt Archer: Legend by Kendra Highley

The Gods of Heavenly Punishment by Jennifer Cody Epstein

Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison (Audiobook)

This month I listened to my very first audiobook and I wasn’t impressed at all. However, I’m listening to one right now that I’m really enjoying. I think I just didn’t make a good first pick. June was a fun month and I hope July is even better!

April Rewind

Cloud_cover-1

It’s been another great month at Kinx’s Book Nook! I can’t believe April has passed and we’re heading into May. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun.

This month I read and reviewed seven books. Wow, that’s a lot for me!

I, also, wrote several Why I Love to Read posts. I really love writing these! The posts are so much fun!

And last, but not least, I participated in my very first World Book Night. I gave out twenty copies of The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. It was such a great experience. My girls helped out as well and had a wonderful time. I really can’t wait to do it again next year!

March Rewind

March
It’s been another busy month at Kinx’s Book Nook. Another wonderful and crazy month. First, I was chosen as the blogger of the month at Oklahoma Women Bloggers. I wrote several posts about spring cleaning, book review, why I love to read and why I started blogging. Clink here for my posts.
This month I wrote six book reviews; ranging from ok to great. Here’s my list:
The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman (Book Club)
The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier
French Milk by Lucy Knisley
The Bruges Tapestry by P.A. Staes
Yours Affectionately, Jane Austen by Sally Smith O’Rourke
Angelopolis by Danielle Trussoni
I only read one book that I really didn’t like (The Missing File) which I haven’t reviewed yet.
My favorite book that I read and reviewed had to be Angelopolis by Danielle Trussoni. It is such a great sequel to Angelology. You really need to check it out.
I also had some really good giveaways. I participated in the Spring Cleaning Hop and gave a way a big box of books. Congrats to Leslie for winning! I still have two giveaways that are still active: Animal Boogie and The Bruges Tapestry.
The last big thing is that I started Barefoot Saturdays. I recently decided to become a Barefoot Ambassador and sell/promote children’s books. Every Saturday I will be spotlighting a great book from Barefoot. So far, I’ve talked about Animal Boogie and You and Me. Both outstanding books!
Last but not least, I received my first draft of my new website. Hopefully, in the next month I will be switching from Blogger to a self-hosted site. I’m a little nervous but excited too.
Well, that’s my month in a nutshell!
