The Prince’s Breakfast is a wonderful new book published by Barefoot Books written by Joanne Oppenheim and Illustrated by Miriam Latimer. In fact, its the sequel to The Prince’s Bedtime which happens to be one of my favorite children’s books. The Prince’s Breakfast is about a little boy who refuses to eat nothing but dry toast and hot chocolate. The king and queen decide to introduce to him foods from around world to try to get him to eat. Their travels take them to India, Mexico and Zambia. In each amazing place, the Prince refuses to try anything. However at the end of their travels, a man brings a simple bottle of something yummy for the Prince to try. Well, it worked and the Prince will now try anything as long as he has his special bottle of yumminess.

This book has so many things for your child to enjoy. First, the illustrations are so beautiful. I love Ms. Latimer’s art work. Every page is so vivid and bright where a child will be caught up in the story. Second, the words of the story flow so nicely and the rhyming scheme is very fun. It’s a fun way for a child to be more familiar with rhyming words. And last, your child will be able to visit some amazing countries and learn about food from that country. In India, we are introducted to  idlees and dahl, in Mexico, it’s tortillas, fried eggs, avocado and salsa and finally, in Zambia, it’s plantains and other amazing fruits. Your child’s tummy will definitely rumble with hunger after reading The Prince’s Breakfast.

The Prince’s Breakfast is a wonderful to read to your child or for her to read on her own. My younger daughter loved it!

Barefoot Saturday: Why I love Barefoot

Why I love Barefoot Books

As you can tell, I’m a complete book nut. I absolutely loves books and reading is a huge part of my life. I don’t think I would keep my insanity if I didn’t have a book handy. I’m hoping to give that passion for reading to my daughters and Barefoot gives me that opportunity. I remember, in 2007, when I was first introduced to Barefoot. I went to a home party and I fell in love! The books were so beautiful. All of the books just popped out at me. I even remember the first books that I bought: Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon, The Prince’s Bedtime, Farmyard Jamboree,Cleo’s Color Book, and Zoe and Her Zebra. From that moment I was completely hooked.

Very shortly after that party, I became a Stallholder (the title before Ambassador). I joined on a whim. I didn’t even tell my husband (probably not the smartest thing). When I received my starter kit, I thought I died and gone to Heaven. I couldn’t wait to share these books with all of the my family and friends. Barefoot Books are so special and unique. You don’t see them at any book store. So, once again, I couldn’t wait to share Barefoot with everyone I knew.

My launch party was a complete success. I loved seeing my guests’ eyes when they first opened a book. Every book is a work of art and everyone appreciated that. I sold a lot of books that day. I, also, booked several parties. It was a great day! From that day on, I had a passion for sharing Barefoot with EVERYONE!

Due to family issues, I had to leave Barefoot in 2010. BUT, in March 2013, my passion returned and a became a Barefoot Ambassador. My passion not only returned, but it has increased tenfold! I’m, now, part of a wonderful Barefoot family. I love the support I receive from my Barefoot mentor, Allison, and all of the members of the Barefoot community. It is truly a community. If I feel little frustrated and discouraged, all I need to do is turn to other Ambassadors and I will get that support I need.

For me, Barefoot is not all about making money; it’s about watching a child when they open his/her first Barefoot Books. I love hearing “Mommy, Mommy can I get this books?” It’s music to my ears. Furthermore, I hear from parents that they have never seen these books before. I love talking to them and telling them the Barefoot story.

Now, I’m doing all kinds of Barefoot events: home parties, fundraisers, craft fairs. I’ve met some amazing people and, of course, I get to share Barefoot. I going to leave you now with one of my favorite Barefoot Singalongs, A Dragon on the Doorstep. Enjoy!!

Winter is my favorite time of the year. Warm clothes, hot tea, reading by the fire; those are some of my favorite things. Of course, reading by the fire would be number one of my list. After playtime, now its time to snuggle up and read your favorite Barefoot Book with your kids. Storytime is such a wonderful time for you and your children. I love when I have my girls on either side of me, listening to my voice and hearing a story being told. Such wonderful memories! Here are some of our favorite stories.

Barefoot Saturday: Origami

In 2007, when I initially joined the Barefoot community, books were the only items available. Now Barefoot offers puzzles, puppets, games and ORIGAMI. I love the origami kits. My girls and I tried the pink airplane kit and it was so much fun. We had paper airplanes flying all through the home. You know what is really great? Barefoot has two different kits, one blue and one pink. Girls love airplanes too! There are origami kits for all age levels. The animals, birds, and faces are wonderful for the 4 to 10 year olds. The airplanes are for seven and up. And last for the older kids Barefoot has Dragons & Chimeras and Kokeshi dolls. These origami kits are perfect for the upco1381744_10202178497812546_934711550_nming snowy days. Plus, they make great birthday presents and holiday gifts.
